Tutorial Feedback

After refleting on my documentary plans and ideas so far I now know for certain some changes I need to make and targets I need to reach.

As a documentary I need to ensure I have 5 key factors:

  • an expert
  • a subject
  • footage of the issue
  • opinions
  • facts

  •  My expert will be my dad as a sports psychologist
  •  My subject will be one of my friends (Hollie) who dances as a rofessional dancer
  •  My footage of the issue will be cutaways often negative aspects of professional sport during my interview
  •  My presenter (Elsie) will explain that she will interview many sports people to investigate the benefits of sport but also the negative aspects of of doing a sport professionally

This is a slight change to my initial plan as I am bringing in the negative aspect of professonal sport so that audiences can see a true representation of sport, my presenter will investigate into at what point spot begins to be more of a stresser than for fun I will begin with the scientific positives being explained by Elsie and my sports psychologist, followed by investigations into specific sports. I also need to ensure that I have lots of cutaways to use during interviews such as a dancer getting ready, graphics, etc.

Website Audio-Visual: Planning

For my website's audiovisual content I plan to compile behind the scenes footage, consisting of funny moments and bloopers. I plan that most of this footage will come from the shoot of my presenter trying out a sport so I will ensure to get a lot of extra footage here. I will also gather extra footage from when I have my presenter directly addressing the camera as I could use this too.

In using funny moment and bloopers, my behinds the scenes footage will not only uphold the entertainment aspect of the BBC's public service remit but will further support the documentary itself in saying that happiness can be derived from sport.

Documentary research: Scheduling and audience patterns

Recently, documentaries have become increasingly popular, even among the young-adult demographic. Streaming services such as Netflix demonstrate this as the site now has 365 documentaries available to stream and announces 64 million households chose to watch the documentary Tiger King. The BBC also has a huge 3428 texts defined as documentaries immediately available to watch.

This chart shows that documentaries are the second most common type of show to be broadcast at peak times on BBC channels and fourth most common to be broadcast on ITV
