NEA: Audience Research Summation

As a result of my audience research, I have discovered that BBC iPlayer and BBC Three are not my audiences preferred way of accessing online videos, this was true of my focus group as well. I, therefore, must ensure that I use tools such as digital convergence in order to draw my audience into my documentary, as well as making the beginning of the documentary itself interesting so that they continue to watch.

Possible ways I could attract my 16-34 demographic:
  • Use of social media sites such as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter as digital convergence 
  • Feature the TikTok dance craze in my documentary so that younger audiences who are less interested in the science are drawn in by the mention of TikTok
  • The audio-visual content on my website will be more entertaining rather than scientific in order to balance out the fact-heavy article
  • Use graphics and text on top of my video footage in order to more easily explain the science and make it more memorable

NEA Planning: Feedback on pitch

I received these responses from my peers on an online form which they answered after reading my initial pitch

After this feedback, I will definitely feature dance in my documentary as well as more niche sports such as yoga and Zumba. However, as the feedback on this question were quite varied I will aim to include multiple different sports to interest a wider audience 
As the feedback on this question was an even split between informative and entertaining I will perhaps use two different audiovisuals on the website,  one which is entertaining and another which is more serious.
 
 
This response also shows that a combination of entertainment and serious delivery for the documentary is most popular so I will carefully plan the different tones used in my documentary sequence when I storyboard it.
Everyone who gave me feedback was either likely or somewhat likely to watch a mental health based documentary, I will, therefore, ensure the documentary is anchored by the mental health theme.

I really liked this idea given in my additional comments, I will perhaps use TikTok as a way to make the documentary more accessible for everyone, not just those who are part of a serious sports club. 
I will make sure I can access an upmarket target audience by featuring a wide variety of sports which they are likely to be interested in as well as by using a scientific approach in order to attract a more well-educated audience
