Final Television Documentary (Brief 1)

 

Statement Of Intent

 How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? 

Product 1 

I intend to create a documentary exploring how exercise can impact mental wellbeing as my first product. With this topic, I should be able to address the key three aspects of the BBC’s public service remit to inform, educate and entertain their audience. In order to target the 16-25-year-old demographic, I have picked a topic that is very current in the media with a younger age group and which many young people today are interested in. I also intend to take a more light-hearted approach rather than the dark representation that often surrounds mental health, in doing this, I hope to make my documentary easier to watch for a younger audienceI intend to use footage of many different sports in order to represent a broad range of social groups in my documentarythis should also engage a wider audience. I intend to use media language in order to engage my audience right from the beginning, in my generic research I discovered that this is often done through rapid editing in the pre-title sequence so I shall try to emulate this. As a finished product, my documentary should fit with Steve Neale’s genre theory as I intend to combine features of mental health, sport, and science documentaries in order to create a unique product to engage a large audience.  


Product 2 

My second product will be the accompanying website to my documentary, where audiences can find additional information and have the opportunity to interact. I intend to use media language to create a strong sense of brand identity by using the same colour palette and typography of BBC Three in both my products. Following conventions of the industry, I intend to create an advice-based 30-second video for my website to accompany informative information about the cast which will aim to make the audience feel as though they are a part of the documentary. In order to fulfil the PSB (Public Service Broadcasting) remit, I also intend to feature links to charities and helplines so that the public may get help if they need it. I intend to reflect most aspects of the documentary and website in a positive light so that my movement is more empowering rather than daunting. To target my audience, I intend to use a modern layout, avoiding large blocks of writing for my article. Instead, I aim to use more creative ways of conveying information on the website, in order to engage the younger demographicI also intend to use lots of links to social media so that my audience can participateadhering to Clay Shirky’s end of audience theory. 


How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? 


I intend to link my products using social media and encouraging the audience to ask questions. The opportunity for audiences to ask questions will encourage a large online presence, making my brand more of a movement rather than a solitary documentary and website. The presenter of the documentary will also feature on my website for continuity, and I will feature behind the scenes information to create the sense that the audience can fully interact with the team. I intend to use easter eggs so that audiences, who know where to look, may find a link to a competition in which they can win products relating to the sports mentioned.

Final Changes

I added the independent company's logo to my documentary and have uploaded the final version onto the website. 
I also referred back to the BBC Three website and pin dropped the shade of pink to be sure it was exactly the same. I then changed the colour as necessary to ensure brand identity.

Documentary Edits

 

Today I added changed my titles ti include my independent production company and added my logo throughout. In order to do so, I first had to mask the titles I already had as the layers where merged. I will continue making final tweaks to my documentary do won't upload it to Vimeo yet so I don't waste my weekly limit.

Independent production company

 In order to better fit the brief I have created 'Roche productions' which my present Elsie founded and is working it partnership with BBC Three to create my documentary.
